I am going to state the obvious when I say it cannot find a root fs 

My only thoughts are, are you sure that's the correct address for your flash?
I am not sure whether you can use a CF card for flash ...

PD: I have included a "define CONFIG_XILINX_FLASH_START 0xff000000 (not used)" in my auto_config.in file to avoid an error. I have a COMPACT FLASH (ScanDisk 2GB) but it cannot be used by uclinux as a Flash Memory. Isn't it?
